A number of Shetland acts have been nominated for awards at this years prestigeous 'Scottish Traditional Music Awards', which will be held in Fort William in early December. Fiddlers' Bid have been nominated as 'Best Scottish Folk Band', while Chris Stout has been nominated in his own right for his solo album 'Devil's Advocate' in the 'Best Album' category. The Cullivoe Dance Band are up for an award in the 'Best Scottish Dance Band' section and Jenna Reid has been nominated in the 'Instrumentalist of the Year' section, along with Fiddlers' Bid member Catriona McKay who has just released her new solo album 'Starfish'. The awards are based on a public voting system via the Hands Up For Trad website. You can cast your votes at www.handsupfortrad.co.uk Along with the award nominations, Shetland music will be well to the fore during the Scottish Traditional Music Awards event in December, when a number of Shetland's top young traditional musicians will take part in the 'Shetland Sessions', set to run throughout the weekend long event and sponsored by local music company Atlantic Edge Music Services and Northlink Ferries. The young musicians, including Gemma Donald, Ross and Ryan Couper, Victoria Laurenson, Lyn Anderson, Darren Stewart and others, will act as 'house band' in the hotel hosting the awards and also appear at a number of venues in Fort William during the weekend long event. |
