Shetland Arts recognises that tourism is a potential growth area in the islands. It also recognises the value that 'cultural tourism' related visitors bring to a creative community like Shetland (and indeed vice versa) in cultural, social and economic terms and most notably with regard to positive 'word of mouth' marketing benefits.

There are clear and demonstrable benefits to be derived from a high quality, dynamic cultural programme, linked to, and supporting, other visitor related initiatives, not to mention our local Cultural Strategy and the Shetland 'brand'.

This programme will be delivered in partnership with organisations such as community groups and formal organisations such as Promote Shetland to deliver effective strategic benefits and to impact on the whole community, especially rural areas, in both social and economic terms.

Shetland Arts' Music Development programme intends to deliver the following:
