Shaela

'Shaela' have been around in one form or another as a group for a few years, but only now have they established a fairly stable line up of top quality young musicians. They are:

  • Alison Laurenson - fiddle (and drums occasionally)
  • Ryan Couper - guitar and fiddle (Shetland's Young Fiddler of the Year 2006)
  • Emma Davis - fiddle
  • Lyn Anderson fiddle
  • Marianne Couper - keyboards and fiddle

'Shaele' comfortably blend contemporary and traditional tunes and call on both their Shetland heritage and international tastes to create an extremely varied set.

Highlights for the group to date have been invitations to perform at Trinity College's national showcases in Perth, 'Go-North' music showcases in Aberdeen and in local terms a high profile appearance at the Natwest Island Games in 2005 where they provided the entertainment at the 'Sponsors Reception' at Gardie House in Bressay, hosted at the home of Shetland's Lord Lieutenant - the Queens Representative in Shetland.
