'Gaddery' (Shetland dialect for a 'gathering') formed in 2005, primarily to undertake a short tour of America promoting young Shetland's approach to traditional music making. During their visit they undertook festival and concert appearances and delivered a musical educational programme, workshops and concerts in American schools. In addition to performing music from all Shetland's era's, the group (together with their musical mentor Margaret Scollay) deliver a potted history of Shetland music from the distant past to the present day, so in effect are a living history lesson in addition to a hugely entertining musical unit. Featuring a number of Shetland's top young fiddlers and accordionists (there are no less than four past winners of Shetland's Young Fiddler of the Year competition in the group, plus a member who has performed for the Queen) the group firmly established themselves on the American traditional music circuit in a very short time, and have now been invited back for further visits. Gaddery have recently agreed to stay together as a fully functional unit, so expect to hear more from them on a local and national basis in the not too distant future. |
