Another long-term, high profile member of the Shetland traditonal music scene, Violet is internationally acclaimed for her unique piano accompainment style, although she is also a very fine accordionist. It was on this particular instrument that Violet first came to prominence playing with the Islesburgh Dance Band in the company of other notable musicians such as Tom Anderson, Peerie Willie Johnson, Billy Kay, Alice Nicolson, Drew Robertson and Larry Irvine to name but a few of its members. In more recent years Violet has become internationally acclaimed for her truly individual style of piano accompaniment, having 'backed' legendary names such as Tom Anderson of course and more recently Aly Bain. In this role she has made many radio and televison appearances and recently was the focus of her own radio 'biography' on BBC Radio Scotland with Robbie Shepherd. She is still very active on the local music scene in Shetland, most prominently through her live appearances with local fiddler Bryan Gear, although she also teaches piano accompaniment in a private capacity. Internationally recognised accordionist Phil Cunningham penned the tune 'Violet Tulloch Queen of Lerwick' (which appeared on the Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain album 'The Ruby') in her honour.
