Lise Sinclair

A singer hailing from the microscopic Fair Isle, the Thomson family and the enormous singing; fiddle playing; language traditions of the Northern Isles, Lise writes songs, poetry and music straight out of the Shetland landscape, and takes thesound of Shetland dialect to a national and international audience, touring festivalsiin Finland, Germany and Iceland last year.

Selected works:

Ivver Entrancin Wis (Shetlandmusic 2008) is Lise's suite of music for cello, harp, viola and voice based on poetry from Shetland, with musicians Chris Stout, Catriona McKay, Abby Hayward, Wendy Weatherby and Friğarey.

Under the Evening Sky from The Berserkers, was recorded in Reykjavik with Icelandic and Lithuanian musicians and poets and is due for launch is Lithuania in September. This album of songs began as poems from these countries, now reflecting the musical worlds of the authors: trad., blues; jazz... ranging from comforting old standards to a clear new northern sound.

Radio 3's Between the Ears 'Empty Ocean' 2009/2010

Author of 'Here' (North Idea, 2006), her poetry has been widely published and translated from France to Estonia, her latest collaborations more agricultural than cultural. She has recently been gigging with harmonium wherever possible.
