Hom Bru

The word 'legends' is all too easy to apply without really thinking, but sometimes it's the only word that springs to mind when you consider bands such as Hom Bru.

Hom BruHom Bru

Originally formed in 1978 the band attracted immediate accolades both at home and further afield. Youthful spirit and a musical sense of adventure (something they still retain to this day) saw them relocate to Edinburgh in 1980 where they established themselves in no uncertain terms, touring extensively across the UK and Europe, and gaining a reputation as great musicians and the wild men of folk - they maintain they were just behaving like normal Shetlanders of course.

Long since relocated back in their native islands the group has survived several line-up changes although three of the original members Davie Henry (guitar, mandolin and vocals) Gary Peterson (mandolin and banjo) and Brian Nicholson (guitar and vocals) still remain. They have recently been joined by John Robert Deyell on fiddle and still attract large local audiences wherever they appear.

They have released four albums to date (hardly an extensive output over 28 years together) the latest of which was appropriately titled 'No Afore Time'.
Witnessing a live Hom Bru event is still as entertaining a musical experience as you are likely to have anywhere. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for them.
