Fiddlers Bid

One of the highest profile bands current on the Shetland music scene, having played concert halls, arena's and major festivals and events the world over. Just some of these have seen them appear at the Sydney Opera House, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC, Epcot Millennium Celebrations in Florida and the 'Ten Days on the Island Festival in Tasmania, Australia.

Add to this appearances all over the UK, Europe and Scandinavia, upcoming visits to the USA for the Folk Alliance Conference in Austin, Texas and tours in the far east, including Japan, and it's clear that Fiddlers' Bid are a happening band to say the least.

Formed in the early 90's while most of them were still at school in Lerwick, Fiddlers' Bid currently comprises Christopher Stout - fiddle, Kevin Henderson - fiddle, Maurice Henderson - fiddle, Andrew Gifford - fiddle, Catriona McKay - keyboards and clarsach, Fionan De Barra - guitar and Jonathon Ritch - bass.

The band, who self pen many of their tunes, have taken the many varied and authentic traditions of Shetland and breathed new and dynamic life into them, while, where appropriate skilfully weaving them together with influences from other countries and traditions to create a unique and highly energised musical landscape, instantly recognisable as their own while also staying true to their roots.

To date the band have release four hugely acclaimed albums - 'Around the World', 'Hamnataing', 'Da Farther Ben Da Welcomer' and the recently released 'Naked and Bare'.

The only way appears to be up from here on in.
