Cullivoe Fiddlers

If its authentic and original fiddle music you are looking for then the village of Cullivoe on the northern Shetland island of Yell is the place to be.

The Cullivoe Fiddlers are unique in every sense of the word. Through tuning their instruments in a special fashion (to create a drone string that could take account of the days when there would more than likely be no accompaniment for the instrument) to playing Shetland tunes in their own unique style, this 'mature' fiddle group certainly stands out from the crowd.

They are in great demand at specialist fiddle festivals and fiddle societies (including our very own Shetland Fiddle Frenzy) and have recently made an appearance at the Falun Festival in Sweden where they received receptions that were nothing short of ecstatic and rapturous.

Their self-titled debut album was released early in 2006.

Shetland's most modest fiddle group bar none.
