Brian Gear

Brian is arguably the finest fiddler in Shetland today, certainly in clinical and technical terms at least.

A student of the late great Willie Hunter, Brian has grown to embody much of the great man himself and it's probably the greatest accolade that many prominent Shetland musicians now recognise him as Willie's worthy successor in the field of Shetland traditional fiddle music.

Brian still retains his job as a joiner in Shetland but has travelled extensively throughout the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, Europe and the Far-East plying his 'second trade' and most recently returned from performing aboard a cruise ship travelling along the west coast of Scotland.

Perhaps given all this it is appropriate that he is regularly accompanied on piano by Violet Tulloch, a wonderful musician in her own right, who commands her own biography in this section.

An amazing solo fiddle player, wonderfully upgraded to a duo alongside another legend from the Shetland music scene. Two amazing musicians - or one incredible duo.
