Schools Music Festival

The 2007 Schools Music Festival has been hailed a great success and one of the best yet by both organisers and participants and also by ever-increasing audience members.

The festival is part musical celebration and part competition, housing as it does the junior and senior sections of the 'Shetland Young Musician of the Year' event.

This years winners were Norman Williamson from Aith on alto sax, while the senior section was won by Maggie Adamson (Anderson High School) from Fladdabister on violin.

The festival is also an opportunity for school pupils from across Shetland to come together and perform in a live environment and, while doing so, to obtain gradings (gold, silver and bronze) from an expert musical adjudicator - who this year was Mr Walter Blair. Mr Blair has taught music across Scotland over the years in such establishements as the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama to name but one.
