Full results from the 2010 Young Musician of the Year competition and Schools Music Festival adjudicated classes (review to follow).

Young Musician of the Year

Senior Young Musician of the Year - Chapman Cheng (AHS) - Violin. Winner of the Alliance & Leicester Cup.

Junior Young Musician of the Year - Nicola Morrison (Whiteness Primary) - Piano. Winner of the Alliance & Leicester Cup.

Adjudicated Classes

Class 1 - Piano Solo - Gold Awards to Carys Bilton (Cunningsburgh Primary), Kelsey Goudie (Sound Primary), Freya Murphy (Sound Primary), Iona Leask (Scalloway JHS) and Alex McKay (Bells Brae). The cup (Kay Trophy) went to Freya Murphy.

Class 2 - Piano Solo - Gold Awards - Jack Tait (Tingwall Primary) Lisa Watt (Sound Primary) and Nicola Morrison (Whiteness Primary) Cup Rosesound Trophy) - Nicola Morrison (Whiteness Primary)

Class 3 - Piano Solo: Gold Award - Amy Laurenson (Sound Primary) She won the cup in this class too.

Class 4 - Piano Duet - Gold Awards to Eleanor Hutcheon & Lara Polson (Bells Brae) and Jodie Laurenson and Jessie Flora McKenzie (Bells Brae). The overall cup for Piano Duet went to Jodie and Jessie Flora.

Class 5 - Piano Duet - Gold Award to Amy Laurenson and Lisa Watt (Sound Primary).

Class 6 - Woodwind Solo - Gold Award to Amy Laurenson (Sound Primary). She also won the overall cup in this section.

Class 7 - Woodwind Solo - Gold Award to Lisa Moncrieff (Whiteness Primary).

Class 8 - Woodwind Duet - No Gold Awards but cup to Hannah Cutt and Kyle Brooke-Freeman (Cunningsburgh Primary).

Class 9 - Brass Solo - Gold Award to Heather Isbister (Scalloway JHS).

Class 10 - Brass Solo - Gold Awards to Hamish Hunter (Scalloway JHS) and Joe Smith.(Bells Brae). Joe also won the overall cup in this section.

Class 11 - Brass Duet - Gold Award to Craig Smith and Josie Wishart (Sound Primary). They won the cup in this section too.

Class 12 - String Solo - Gold Awards - Ava Williams (Bells Brae) Sofie Spasova (Sandwick JHS). The Cup (Henderson Trophy) went to Ava Williams.

Class 13 - String Solo - No golds awarded.

Class 14 - String Duet: - Gold Award - Sophie Moar and Fraser Tait (Sandwick JHS). They won the String Duet Cup too.

Class 15 Guitar Solo - Gold Awards to James Monaghan (Sandwick JHS) and Kevin Stove (Sandwick JHS). The cup here (Atlantic Edge Music Guitar Solo Shield) went to James Monaghan.

Class 16 - TBC.

Class 17 - Guitar Duet - No Gold Awards. The Cup (the Atlantic Edge Music Guitar Duet Shield) went to Lenny Allan and Bradley Sharp (Scalloway JHS).

Class 18 - Vocal Solo - no Gold Awards

Class 19 - Vocal Solo - Gold Award to Lauren Boyle (Bells Brae) and she won the overall vocal solo cup too.

Class 20 - Vocal Duet - Gold Award to Sam Malcolmson and Megan Perry (Nesting Primary) and they won the cup.

Class 21 - Accordion Solo - Gold Awards to Lynsey Henry (Dunrossness Primary) Arthur Polson (Whalsay JHS) and Mark Johnson (Whalsay JHS). The cup here went to Arthur Polson (Whalsay).

Class 22 - TBC.

Class 23 - TBC.

Class 24 - Primary Classroom Groups - 1-3 Teacher Schools - Gold Awards to Westside Chimes (Aith Junior High School) Urafirth Primary School, Hamnavoe Primary 6-7, Aith Primary 6-7 and 'Garage Sales' being Tingwall Primary 6&7. The cup here was shared by Urafirth and 'Garage Sales'.

Class 25 - Primary Classroom Groups: 4+ Teacher Schools - Gold Award to Bells Brae Primary 7N. They won the cup in this section too.

Class 26 - Primary Orchestra / Band - Small Group - Gold Awards Dunrossness Wind Band and 'Puffinwind' from Cunningsburgh Primary School. The cup here went to Puffinwind.

Class 27 - Primary Orchestra or Band - Large Groups - Gold |Awards - Bells Brae Orchestra, Whiteness Orchestra and Bells Brae Samba Band. Cup went to Bells Brae Orchestra

Class 28 - Primary Traditional Groups - Gold Awards to Sandwick Primary 7 (percussion group with tutor Joy Duncan) 'Sooth Trows' traditional music group from Sandwick JHS and Dunrossness Primary (Eunice Henderson). Cup (High Level Music Trophy) went to Sandwick Primary 7.

Class 29 Primary Recorder Groups - Gold Award to Brae Primary 4 Recorder Group. They won the cup in this section too.

Class 30 - Primary School Choirs 1-3 Teacher Schools - Gold Award to - Nesting Primary School Choir, Mid-Yell Primary Choir and Cullivoe Primary School Choir. The cup was won by Nesting.

Class 31 - Primary Classroom Choirs: 4+ Teacher Schools - Gold Awards to - Scalloway Primarry Choir, Sandwick Primary Singing Group, Sandwick Dialect Singing Choir, Cunningsburgh Choir and also the Cunnigsburgh Lavericks (a small dialect singing group). The cup here went to Sandwick Primary Singing Group.

Special Awards

Shetland Forwirds Dialect Singing Award - Cunningsburgh Lavericks (Cunningsburgh Primary)

Festival Cup. Awarded to the outstanding individual or group. Fraser Tait (Sandwick JHS)

Schools Shield - Notable overall contribution from a school - Dunrossness Primary School.
