Young Fiddler of the Year

This years Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year competition will be held in the Garrison Theatre, Lerwick on 20th and 21st April.

Featuring most, if not all, of Shetland's up and coming young players, the competition providesspectators not only with two days of nail-biting, high quality musical competition, but also affords them a glimpse into the future of Shetland's traditional music sector.

The competition is split into several sections with a Junior, Intermediate and Open sections, with also a traditional and open element to the musical content.

Winning the competition is viewed as a great accolade and can prove to be the springboard to success. Previous winners have included Margaret Scollay (the very first winner back in the early 80's) Catriona macdonald, Christopher Stout, Jenna Reid Bryan Gear, Kevin Henderson and Mark Laurenson to name but a few.

The 2006 winner, the 25th year of the competition, was Ryan Couper (son of Margaret Scollay) who won both the Traditional and Open sections of the competition.
