Update - Gig review - "Legion punters go wild for acoustic show by Turin Brakes" - http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2009/09/22/renowned-indie-duo-to-play-one-off-gig-at-legion Internationally renowned indie duo Turin Brakes are to make a surprise short notice Shetland visit to play a one-off gig in Lerwick's British Legion on Sunday 4th October as part of a fleeting Scottish tour. The Scottish dates come hot on the heels of their headline success at this year's Loopallu festival in Ullapool. Turin Brakes, comprising Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian, originally formed in 1999. Their acclaimed debut album The Optimist was nominated for the coveted Mercury Music Prize and also produced two successful UK singles Underdog (Save Me) and Emergency 72. Davie Gardner of local company Atlantic Edge Music Services, which is co-promoting the gig with Scottish based music promoters Beyond Promotions, said it was great to have yet another high profile band asking to perform in Shetland. "Turin Brakes apparently played a storming set at the Loopallu festival in Ullapoool and enjoyed it so much they asked if they could play a few additional gigs in Scotland including Shetland. It's short notice for sure but I'm happy to give it a go given the profile and quality of the band. I'm aware that they have quite a number of fans up here so it should be a great night for sure," he said. Local singer/songwriter will provide Malachy Tallack support Tickets, priced £10, are now available from High Level Music on Commercial Street and via Seetickets at www.seetickets.com. Doors open at 7pm and the gig starts at 7.30pm. |
