Shetland's proposed new cinema and music venue has been named by Shetland Arts - who manage the project - after they invited possible names to be submitted from the general public. Shetland Arts received many suggstions for a possible name but finally settled on 'Mareel'. "Mareel" is a dialect word defined in John Graham's Shetland dictionary as "the phosphorescence seen on the sea, mostly during autumn time in Shetland.
