The team involved with the development of Shetland's proposed new cinema and music venue are seeking assistance to find a suitable name for the building.

Shetland Arts project manager Kathy Hubbard said "We've always felt that its a bit of a clumsy and indeed in some ways a misleading title as it stands, as the proposed facility is of course much more than just a cinema and performance area. We're looking for a name that's much more inspirational and if the public can help us arrive at a suitable name for the facility we would be very grateful indeed".

Members of the Shetland dialect group 'Shetland Forwirds' have already suggested a few potentially appropriate names including Norder Hoose, Nort Hansel and Hiarta (a term of endearment).

Shetland Islands Council's cultural spokesman Councillor Eddie Knight said that the area where it is proposed the building be located had many historic associations and he felt it would be good if a Shetland title, in keeping with this association, could be found for the new building.

Councillor Knight said "Its about having a strong identity for such an exciting project, one which is intended to celebrate the very diverse cultural life of Shetland past, present and future. Any name should clearly reflect that existing identity" The facility will be located at Lerwick's North Ness area between the new museum and archive and the existing business park.
