A funding application for £2.2m toward Shetland's proposed cinema and music venue has now been lodged with the National Lottery by Shetland Arts.

The application is part of the overall funding package of around £7.5m that will be required to build and fit out the new facility which, if all goes well, will open in doors in 2010.

Kathy Hubbard of Shetland Arts, who has been working on the application for the past few months, along with members of the project team, said "Its been an incredible amount of hard and detailed work, but we have managed to get the application lodged before the date specified."

Shetland Arts will now have to wait until August 2007 before a final decision is taken by the Lottery Board with regard to the application, but Kathy said that the project team were "hopeful" of a successful outcome.
