Lemon Tree Closes

Aberdeen's legendary venue 'The Lemon Tree', where many Shetland artists have appeared over the years, has been closed with immediate effect and gone into liquidation, due to financial difficulties.

Rumours of financial problems and funding difficulties have been circulating for some time but the venue has finally closed its doors with the loss of over 50 jobs.

However a campaign by staff, Aberdeen city councillors and MSP's, among others, is gaining momentum in an effort to save the venue and have it re-opened.

However as one door appears to close (temporarily at least) another may very well open with Aberdeen City Council offering substantial financial backing toward an ambitious contemporary arts centre development in the city centre.
