Young Shetland Fiddler Gemma Donald (18), who last year won the prestigious 'Glenfiddich Scottish Fiddle Championships, will head for the French resort of Cannes in late May as part of a Shetland delegation attending the world famous film festival in the city. Gemma will perform at the festival in a promotion supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, along with her piano accompaniest Owen Muir. In addition to the musical element of the visit, five members of the 2007 Jarl Squad, led by Jarl Graham Nicolson and including Shetland MSP Tavish Scott, will also attend the event which is aimed at promoting Shetland as a viable film-making location. Davie Gardner of 'Atlantic Edge Music Services' who manages Gemma said "This is a great opportunity not only for Gemma to demonstrate what a great young musician she is to a very influential audience, but also to promote Shetland traditional music as potential soundtracks for films in the future".
