Glasgow based promoter Billy Kelly of Soundsfine Ltd died on Sunday 4th February 2007 at his home in Glasgow after a short illness.

Billy brought a number of top qualilty acts to Shetland, including Ba Cissoko and the Omar Sousa Trio, as part of the Scottish Arts Council's 'Tune Up' touring programme, in conjunction with Shetland Arts music development project.

He was aalso the promoter of Glasgow's Big Big Country festival, an event that played host to a number of Shetland artists over the years including Sheila Henderson. Additionally he also represented 'McKewans Sessions' who sponsored the traditional sessions at the Shetland Folk Festival for a number of years.

Davie Gardner and Richard Wemyss who worked with Billy in Shetland on a number of occasions said they were shocked and saddened to hear of his death. "Billy was a quiet modest guy but he could also be a larger than life character into the bargain" said Davie. "He loved his music and carried great respect in the interenational music world. He will be a sad loss to the industry and a great miss personally"

Shetland Arts, and all in Shetland who knew and respected him, send their condolences to Billy's wife and family at this very sad time.
