Fiddlers CBeebies

A number of young Shetland fiddlers are set to make their televison debut on the 11th January.

The fiddlers, drawn from fiddle teacher Eunice Henderson's school groups, will appear on the CBeebies channel in a five minute programme etitled 'Take a Bow'. The programme will be shown at 7.50am and again at 4.40pm on the digital channel.

The filming was carried out in Shetland during August as part of Shetland Arts 'Fiddle Frenzy' fiddle school and festival. Filming for the programme took place at St Ninians Isle and also in the Lerwick Boating Club. It features fiddle playing and dancing and the barins do all the presenting themselves.

Shetland Arts Event Manager Richard Wemyss said "It was certainly very exciting and a great experience for all the young folk to be involved in a project of this kind, and it was especially great to have it as part of Fiddle Frenzy. We are all looking forward to seeing the end result. National exposure of this kind is always good for Shetland as a whole as well of course".

Having been shown on the CBeebies channel it is expected that Take a Bow will also be shown on a number of BBC childrens programmes in the not too distant future.
