The lead singer from one of the UK's most enduring and popular indie guitar bands ventures north later this month for 2 acoustic gigs in Shetland. Mark Morriss, the lead singer in the Bluetones, will play at the Northern Lights function room in Brae on Friday 21st August followed by a show at the Royal British Legion in Lerwick the following evening. This will be Mr Morriss' 3rd trip to Shetland having previously played with the Bluetones in front of 1500 people at the At The Edge festival in Fort Charlotte in 2005. The band had so much fun on that occasion that they followed it up with a gig in the North Star only 6 weeks later. Morriss formed the Bluetones along with his brother Scott and 2 friends in Hounslow in 1994. The band enjoyed tremendous commercial success during the 90's with a string of top 10 singles including Slight Return, Cut Some Rug and Marblehead Johnson. Their debut album, Expecting To Fly, was released to critical acclaim in 1996 and subsequently topped the album charts on it's release. The Bluetones are one of the few bands formed in the Britpop era to still be in existance today, and despite the fact that they may not trouble the top end of the charts today, they remain a very succesful live act with a very loyal following. Morriss released his debut solo album entitled Memory Muscle last year, the album once again show-cased Morriss' ability to marry a great lyric with an unforgettable melody. As well as touring his solo album, Morriss has been back on the road with The Bluetones this year, and a week before he arrives in Shetland, Mark will be onstage with his band at the 1500-capacity Picture House in Edinburgh playing Expecting To Fly in it's entirety as part of the fringe festival. Local support acts will be announced shortly for these shows which are being sponsored by Allied Taxis.
