£2.8 million of support for Mareel from the European Regional Development Fund has been announced today (03/12/08), completing the funding package. Other backing has already been pledged from a variety of organisations including £2.12m from the Scottish Arts Council Lottery Fund, £5.19m from Shetland Islands Council, £965,000 from Highland & Islands Enterprise, £965,000 from Shetland Development Trust and £50,000 from The Gannochy Trust. The multi media arts centre, scheduled to open in 2010, will include a multi purpose performance auditorium, cinema, education facilities, rehearsal rooms and a café bar.
