Shetland Blues Festival

The Shetland Blues Festival is one of the newest festivals on the Shetland calendar, and in terms of other local festivals "still an infant", but growing up fast.

Another Shetland festival that does exactly what it says on the tin, but rest assured of the widest possible range of ingredients and interpretations of the word 'blues'. Everything's on offer, from the laid-back meandering acoustic sounds of the Mississippi Delta - allowing you to sit back relax and enjoy - to in-your-face R & B that demands you dance or throw yourselves around, or indeed do both.

The festival is largely based in the capital town of Lerwick, but takes the occasional 'wander' out into the surrounding countryside for good measure. Hey, but if the festival can't come to your doorstep every year, that's about the only restriction and excuse for not attending, as many of the gigs take place in local pubs and clubs and are, believe it or not, free of charge.

Full concerts, not surprisingly, you have to pay for, but you certainly won't be disappointed in terms of quality and variety with acts such as Nine Below Zero, Steve Phillips, Joshua Blue, The Spikedrivers and Delta Croft Review having attended past festivals.

If you can't afford to visit the real home of the blues, the Shetland Blues Festival is a pretty good alternative - and there are no mosquitoes... well not big ones anyway.
