Young Fiddler of the Year

The Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year competition takes place every April.

Open to under 16 year olds from all over Shetland, winners of the prestigious event reads like a who's who of young (and not so young now!) fiddle excellence. Each year there are around 80 entrants.

The competition is organised by the Shetland Folk Society in order to "encourage and perpetuate the playing of traditional fiddle music and tunes"

There are two main categories, 'Open' encompassing all styles and 'Traditional' focussing on the traditional Shetland style. The categories have junior, intermediate and senior sections.

The overall winner is each year hailed as "The Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year"
