Where you have masses of musicians and vibrant musical community of quality and diversity, you are sure to have a suitably wide range of events to go along with it, and Shetland is no exception.

Throughout the year there are literally hundreds of music related events from festivals to specialised music weekends; fiddle schools to one-off concerts; country dances to pub and clubs gigs and of course traditional sessions galore and lots more besides.

Here are details of just a few of the larger and more important events:

There you go - literally not a week (indeed hardly a day) goes by when there's not something to tempt you to either visit the islands or simply to go out for a night. Music events in all areas, for all ages, for all tastes and for all budgets.

Fiddle Frenzy, Shetland's week long musical summer school which features showcase concerts by many of Shetland's finest musicians, starts today.
BBC ALBA will be broadcasting an hour-long programme from the 30th Shetland Folk Festival, featuring Fiddlers Bid, on Saturday 31 July at 21:00
